The Department of Visual Arts and Crafts at the College of the Arts is proud to present the second “New Beginnings” exhibition at the Bank Windhoek OMBA Gallery on Friday the 5th of February.

New graduates of the Product Development Diploma Course present artworks created since graduating in November last year to the public, in their first foray into the art world as new professionals. The works presented by the students represent not only the skills learnt during the three year diploma course, but also their own choice of media, subject matter and expression as all the work on display has been created without guidance from their lecturers.

As emerging Namibian artists, graduates face an increasingly challenging local art market, with strong competition from artists from neighbouring countries, but rise to this challenge with unique works with a strong local flavour. An emphasis on re-using, recycling and refusing to give up has shaped these artists’ resolve, and the public is urged to come and view the works, celebrate young local talent and support the artists.

The College of the Arts is a member of the Bank Windhoek Smart-partnership, and this exhibition forms part of their ongoing arts festival programme.
